Pikes Peak Volleyball Club is beginning a new concept called "P.P.V.Cares" which stands for

Pikes Peak Volleyball Cares.

We will be starting and developing new programs in many different areas of focus, but all with the same overarching purpose - to show not on ly our girls, but our community, that Pikes Peak Volleyball Club understands that there is more to life than volleyball and there are many, many ways to show it.

Be on the lookout here and throughout our website for our new "P.P.V.Cares" programs.

By now, just about everyone's life has been affected by cancer.  Most of us either have someone in our family, a friend, a teammate...someone...who has fought the battle against cancer.  Some have won and some haven't - but all could use some help...

Which is why Pikes Peak Volleyball Club will be donating 10% of the money brought in at our 2008 Tryouts to cancer research.

Keep fighting and Love Pink!

Bags of Hope is a new program Pikes Peak is starting this year to get our girls involved in the notion that while there are absolutely more important aspects of life than volleyball - the friendships made and the lessons learned by being part of a club volleyball team can help develop a girl into an outstanding young woman which will impact every area of her life and the lives of those she touches.

Bags of Hope is a completely voluntary program for our players to donate last year's PPVC backpack and fill them with school supplies or potentially even last year's uniform jerseys or our leftover tryout t-shirts.

This will be done by a volunteer group of this year's players and supervised by a coach (Lindsay?! :-)

This group will research locations in need where these "Bags of Hope" can then be sent to provide some hope and a few items to help some less fortunate girls know that we are all family when it comes to volleyball.  One possible location to send our innaugural collection of bags this year is the New Orleans area, where they are still struggling from Hurricane Katrina.

Our players get a new PPVC backpack each year, so this is an opportunity for our girls to share their "old" bags with girls who may not be able to get embroidered backpacks for their club season.  And since our bags are embroidered with our logo, name and number - we are going to ask any player who donates her bag to also write a short letter to the recipient girl explaining who she is, where we play, etc. which will be included in her bag.

"Bags of Hope" POC:  To be named

Volunteers:  If you would like to be a "Bags of Hope" volunteer - please email the Director at pikespeakvb@gmail.com and type "Bags of Hope volunteer" in the subject line.  Thanks in advance!

PPVC's Scholar-Athlete Reward Program is another Pikes Peak Volleyball Cares program.

While we know that many girls favorite volleyball t-shirt has the slogan "Volleyball is Life" - we at Pikes Peak Volleyball Club are well aware that isn't and we choose to share that knowledge with our players.

This may be contrary to what you are used to hearing from a volleyball club, but it is absolutely in line with our mission statement of "Empowering girls and developing young women through the sport of volleyball."

Our Scholar-Athlete Reward Program is for any and all Pikes Peak players of any age.

At the end of the school year, any PPVC player who mails me a copy of their school report card for the entire school year with all "As" - PPVC will mail that player a check as a reward.  National and Regional team players will receive a check for $50 and Local/Developmental team players will receive $25.

Actions speak louder than words - and this is a small action to show our players that PPVC cares about them as complete young ladies and not just as volleyball players.

CONGRATULATIONS to our 2008 PPVC Scholar-Athletes:

- Ellyn Barkley (17 National)
- Haley Feten (12 Local)
- Tonya Kauffman (14 Local)
- Tessie Koziol (16 National)
- Rachel Nelson (13 Regional)
- Kaitlin Neu (16 Regional)
- Gaby Smith (17 Regional)
